We're stopping to smell the flowers this Earth Day. Or we will be as soon as these native wildflowers emerge in a few months, and we won't be alone! Pollinators love the wildflowers our Communications Coordinator Emma Harper planted over the weekend. She's even got some new bee friends to share her pollinator garden with. "Anyone who knows me knows that I love flowers and conservation," says Emma. "After getting honey bees, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to do both!" The pollinator garden is a 900-square-foot plot planted with a wildflower mix specific to bees and other pollinators. Emma also plans to plant an acre of sunflowers and clover. "One of my life goals as a conservationist is to help preserve the natural beauty and harmony of nature. It's a pretty lofty goal so I'm starting with baby steps," says Emma. "This pollinator garden is one small thing that I can do personally to support the natural ecosystems at my family farm." #EarthDay #pollinators #pollinatorgarden #nativeflowers

Clare visited the People's Garden yesterday in the rain. This is such a special place. The garden was named in honor of USDA’s founder, President Abraham Lincoln, who described USDA as “The People’s Department.” It has been a rainy week in DC but should clear up for #WaterWeek next week! Looking forward to seeing our friends at the US Water Alliance!
