Join us at the Des Moines Buccaneers’ final regular-season game against the Sioux City Musketeers! Bring your doxie along to watch—and for their chance to compete against other local four-legged weenies on the ice.

During the first intermission, the Bucs and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa will once again host “wiener dog” racing in Des Moines! Dachshund owners can enter their pups in the race for a chance to win prizes and help raise funds for animals in need. After the race, stick around to enjoy the rest of the game from the dogs-only section of the rink!

PLUS — NEW this year: all dogs are welcome! Don’t have a doxie? No problem! You and your pup—of any breed—can still join us in the stands to cheer on the Bucs and our Doxie Dashers.

Be sure to stop by the ARL raffle table for a chance to win fun prizes and don’t forget to sign-up for the Chuck-A-Puck competition by the Box Office —ALL proceeds will go directly back to the animals in our care.

The Ankeny Rotary Clubs will be holding their 14th annual fundraiser on April 18, 2026, at the FFA Enrichment Center on the campus of DMACC in Ankeny. This year’s theme will be “The Roaring 20s”, a decade of music and fashion.

The spirit of the Roaring 20s began the age of modern technology such as automobiles, moving pictures, radio, and aviation soon to became a business due to its rapid growth. Jazz and dancing rose in popularity in opposition to the mood of World War I and new trends in lifestyle and culture developed and the 20s became known as the "Jazz Age". And dames got the right to vote in the US in 1920!!

Rotary’s gala will begin at 5:00 PM with social time including wine and beer which will be available throughout the evening, which won’t cost you any scratch. Prizes will be awarded for the guests that best represent the “Roaring 20s” theme including the spiffiest dressed couple, best dressed doll, and most dapper guy.

It should be a swell evening, a real bee’s knees event. So don’t be a wet blanket and ladies, break out your beads, sequins, tassels, feather headbands, and Gatsby or fringe flapper dress and men your dark navy blue pinstripe gangster tweed suit and fedora hat and plan to attend Rotary's 2026 fundraiser on April 18, 2026.

On With Life is proud to host a free Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Fair designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s, care partners, family members and community supporters. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, exploring resources or looking to stay active and connected, this event offers practical tools and meaningful support. Attendees will rotate through interactive learning stations focused on brain health, movement and exercise, communication strategies, adaptive equipment and more.

Sessions will include topics such as:

Understanding Parkinson’s
BIG & boxing-based movement
Singing and LOUD speech techniques
Adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment (DME)
Cognitive fitness strategies

Between sessions, guests can explore resource tables and connect with trusted community partners, including therapy providers, fitness experts, caregiver resources, insurance specialists and local senior services.
